Diameters available for PTFE Rod:
PTFE Rod is produced by an either extrusion or moulded process, the smaller diameters are made by extrustion option and the larger diameters are produced by the moulded option. Extruded PTFE Rod is made from as small as 4mm diameter and normally up to a maximum diameter of 500mm. The moulded grade starts at diameters of around 56mm and then up to a maximum diameter of 500mm. Extruded PTFE Rod is generally produced by manufacturers in lengths of 2000mm long and the moulded rods are produced in lengths which vary from 300mm up to 500mm.
Important facts about PTFE Rod:
Although PTFE can be bonded with modern adhesives but it does require an element of skill and is only possible with these modern adhesives that are only available from specialists. Another important area is the coefficient of linear expansion, PTFE can withstand high temperatures but components can expand at uneven rates which has the potential for distortion. Further facts include its relative softness, care must be taken during the machining process to avoid damage or distortion due to clamping forces needed.
