How is PTFE Rod manufactured:
PTFE is produced by directly replacing hydrogen atoms to polyethylene with fluorine and using fluorine with polyethylene gas at plus 20°C. PTFE is also made by emulsion polymerisation of the tetrafluoroethylene polymer and with high pressure.
The History for PTFE Rod:
It is thought that Mr Roy Plunkett discovered PTFE quite by accident back in the 1930's. Mr Plunkett was said to be looking to discover a new refrigerant and the word "serendipity" has often been used to describe its discovery.
Mr Plunket was working for a huge company in the USA and later on, DUPONT name the material Teflon® which is a name most people know it as today. Teflon® has been used on some amazing applications from high specification clothing to non-stick cookery ware and with further developments we will still see the expansion of it's applications.
